My mom and the 3 Day walk….

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Nine years ago my mom sat me and my sister down for a talk. We never really have serious talks, so we knew something was up. We found out that my mom had breast cancer. I was 23, my sister was 18. The idea at that time that I might lose my mom was unfathomable.

I’m lucky to say that nine years later, my mom is cancer free. Now that I’m a mom and she’s a grandma, the idea of losing her is even more scary! I truly feel for all of those that have lost a love one to breast cancer. The scare of breast cancer was more then enough for me.

My mom has done several of the Komen “Race for the Cure” walks in the past. This year she (and a group of friends) have decided to tackle the 3 Day Walk. I am in awe of those that attempt and complete the three day walk. I’m not going to walk it with her, but I’m hoping to help her reach (and exceed) her fundraising goal.

I am going to offer ALL my past clients from 2006-2008 the opportunity to purchase their digital images at a discounted rate plus a donation to the three day walk. Single images will start at $35 ($10 of which will be a donation) and sessions will start at $150 ($50 of which will be a donation). If this is something you are interested in, please contact me. I will review your files and work with you to create a 3 Day Walk collection that works for you. The donations will be made in YOUR name (unless you prefer to place them in Lil Sweet Pea’s name), so you get the added bonus of a tax deduction.

Individual donations can also be made via The 3 Day site. Please help me help my mom and all the other moms and women out there that have faced or are facing breast cancer.

Here’s a picture of my mom and my daughter. I simply can not imagine how my life would be without her! I hope my daughter has a lifetime of memories with her grandma ahead of her!

I need more models….

On June 16th I’m hosting a workshop in Detroit, I Shot Someone in Detroit. I originally put the call out (via my newsletter) that I needed models under 2. Well now it seems I need models of ALL ages! We don’t have the timeline scheduled yet, but we’re going to need several models, boys and girls, in all age ranges.

I’m looking for little ones who have a good temperament, are comfortable around strangers and have a vast wardrobe ;) If you think your child fits the bill, please email me!

In exchange for giving of your child and time, I will gift you w/ a CD of images shot from the workshop :)

Free Toeing - Bring on Summer

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Free Toeing, originally uploaded by LilSweetPeaPhoto.

I’m trying out a new feature on my blog, importing from Flickr. So you can feel free to skip over this post if you want.

I love this image of Madeline (yes, those toes are Mads). I took it not even trying. I love the blade of grass stuck between her toes. Many of you have seen the canvas from this “session” w/ Mads. She has a huge smile and her eyes are glowing!

This image screams SUMMER to me. I can’t wait for this summer to begin.

Tulips and a 3 year old

Seems to be an annual tradition now getting Mads photos in front of the tulips in our front yard.  This year’s session was really forced.  We were in between going to the mall and dinner.  But nonetheless, I have to share.  If you notice her shoes they are her first pair of All Star Converse Chucks ;)  And I HAD to buy them for this outfit!

Without further ado… Mads and the tulips.  Oh and yes, that is Matilda Jane once again.  Well MJ skirt and leggings w/ a lilly pulitzer top.

Mr. C ……….

I’ve known Mr. C’s mom my entire life, no joke. We were neighbors growing up. Our mom’s were pregnant at the same time. Mariah was born 3 days before me. And boy did she hold that over me for awhile. For example, she turned 16 first, 18 first, 19 first, then 21 first. But now I get to enjoy that she turned 3o first, LOL!

Anyways, Mariah and I have much in common (beside late October b-days). We are both the oldest, we have the same wedding anniversary (though mine was like 7 years before hers, lol), we both love Jimmy Buffett, we’re both teachers, we’re both the oldest sibling, and finally we are both moms. Mr. C brought one more common connection to us.

I’ve said before that I’ve had the perfect newborn, but C really was content to let me do anything. The only problem was this was a newborn session unlike ANY other! First my mom and Madeline were there, grandma was there, there were not 1, not 2 but 4 yorkies running around. I’ve never shot a session in front of such a crowd, LOL! Add into that the RAIN. It was dark and rainy but we did our best.

Despite the hoopla and circus that was going on, I did manage to get some sweet images of Mr. C. Mariah welcome to motherhood. As any mom will tell you, it’s one of the most amazing journeys you will ever take!

You do weddings? Ummmm…..No!

When you come from an extended large family (mom has 13 brothers and sisters), it seems there’s always some sort of happenings going on. Well my cousin Tara (the only other family member to go to U of M) got engaged around Thanksgiving. I immediately offered to do her engagement photos. Now I’ve been asked several times if I do weddings or will do weddings. And outside of my sister-in laws wedding this summer, the answer is NO! I’ve got 2 reasons, #1 I don’t want to meet Bridezilla. Honestly YOUR wedding day really isn’t the most important day of MY life, LOL! #2 No redos! If I’m sick or a client is sick or the weather is crappy or something funky happens, I can reschedule a photo session. You can’t reschedule a wedding, LOL!

Now engagement photos can be redone. Plus this is my cousin, so there’s no pressure :) We battled some fierce winds the day we did this session. But all in all I think it went well and we got some great images! I can’t wait till the wedding, even if it falls on a FOOTBALL Saturday (Tara, what the heck were you thinking, LOL!).

So meet Tara and Matt…..These images were taken in downtown Howell where Matt is from.
